GVF Nepal Aid
The April 25th, 2015 Nepal earthquake killed about 9,000 people and injured more than 20,000. The earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, making it the deadliest day on the mountain in history. Hundreds of thousands of people are now homeless with entire villages devastated across many districts of the country. Centuries-old buildings were destroyed at UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley. A total of 270 aftershocks over 4 Richter scale were recorded in a period of a month since April 25.
The Green Villages Foundation intervention:
Green Villages Foundation is involved in supporting the relief efforts in Katmandu valley and in remote and needy villages in affected districts. At least 14 districts including Kathmandu , Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Gorkha, Dhading, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Rasuwa, Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga, Kavre and Nuwakot experienced the worst impact of the earthquake, which affected over 40 districts of Nepal.
Green Villages Foundation is involved in designing, developing and distributing solar lanterns and other modular solar powered lighting and water treatment solutions to the affected communities.
Solar lanterns and panels already distributed offer both lighting and mobile charging solutions to ensure safety, protection & communication during this time of need in Nepal. For each sponsored village community, a minimum of fifty (50) lanterns will be distributed.
Specific programs with other additional services can be created in consultation with interested sponsors and partners.
